"How Can I Choose a High Quality Protein Powder?"

Protein powder is arguably one of the most popular supplements within the health and fitness industry. There are thousands of brands, flavors and different kinds to choose from. It is almost overwhelming. There are also thousands of people who have this product on a day to day basis. Unfortunately, there are thousands of these supplement brands that do not source high quality ingredients. They add sneaky additives into the products that can cause a cascade of issues over time, especially when consuming on a daily basis. Let's break down what to look for in a nourishing protein powder that will support your body.

  1. Consider the source.

    1. When it comes to protein powder there are many different kinds; whey, goat, casein, pea and many more. For those that can handle dairy a high quality whey protein is a great choice. Some are sensitive to dairy and goat whey is a great alternative. Vegan protein can be tricky, but if it is an absolute must grabbing a high quality pea protein can be a great option.

  2. Check for simple additive free ingredients.

    1. Protein powders can be packed full with additives such as; gums, sweeteners, preservatives and much more. This is also why it is common for many to experience bloating after consuming certain protein powders. Your ingredient label should be simple ingredients and a maxim of 4-5 ingredients. This leaves no room for extra unnecessary stuff. The ingredient label on the left has tons of fillers and additives, while the option on the right is simple, transparent and does not include artificial sweeteners.

  1. Buy organic and or grass fed when possible.

    1. There are quite a few protein powder options out there that are organic. This will ensure the quality of the source and ensure you are getting the best ingredients. Below are some great brands to look out for when choosing your next protein powder.

      1. Promix Protein

      2. Simply Tera’s

      3. Ora Organic

      4. Four Sigmatic

      5. Truvani

      6. Mt. Capra

Protein powder can be a great way to add in extra protein to your diet, but can cause health issues if not the right source is being used. You should always do your research and look into the companies you are purchasing from. Next time you are in need of some more protein powder, maybe opt for a more nourishing choice!
