3 Favorite Snack Swaps

Some snack foods are known for having less than optimal ingredients that can cause lots of problems, such as inflammation and plenty of health risks over time. It can be easy to tell you just not to eat them - but it’s never really that easy.

Snack foods often contain ingredients that cause you to crave and over-consume them. When we eat foods that contain these ingredients, we can easily become addicted (and at that point, giving them up will only make us want them even more).

The best way to combat this cycle is to find better options that contain real ingredients, rather than man made ingredients that our bodies don’t recognize.

Three personal favorites that are delicious and clean:

Siete

Siete is a family-owned company that was created for a family member that couldn’t eat gluten. They opted to skip the oils that most chips contain (which become rancid during processing), and instead use avocado oil (a very stable choice) for all of their products. They have five different flavors of tortilla chips, and six different delicious flavors of kettle cooked potato chips.

EPIC Provisions

Epic specializes in meat snack products that are humanely sourced from grass-fed, pasture- raised animals, not to mention they farm sustainably and regeneratively. They make protein bars and jerky from seven different types of animals. They also work hard to use the whole animal by making pork rinds and using rendered fat for cooking and bone broth.

Siggi’s

Siggi’s specializes in skyr and yogurt. Siggi Himarsson started this company because he was missing an Icelandic staple, known as skyr. He wanted to make an authentic brand that skips artificial preservatives, thickeners, sweeteners, flavors, colors, and GMO. The milk is sourced from family farms in Wisconsin and Upstate New York.
